Hope For Haiti Now
The producers and director of Hope For Haiti Now should get special recognition. For an event put together so quickly, with all the logistical problems, it went remarkably well. The non-intrusive fade from song to story felt perfect. The best charity concert ever aired.
Even the cloistered, cliquish celebrity subtext didn’t intrude — let’s face it though, it did have a quality of wax works self-satire. The choice of songs — probably picked by the performers — was almost always, just right. Some things stood out: the backup chorus behind Madonna — a human wave, inhabited by song; the beautiful, strong singing voice of Rihanna (she made Bono fade to an afterthought).
It remains to be seen: how much the event actually raises.
